A Murrieta, CA Immigration Attorney, John Mansfield, explains:
I'm frequently asked "How Much Is My Immigration Case Going To Cost?". Well, in an immigration law matter, it can range from a couple of thousand dollars on up. If the law firm is just doing the paperwork, it might be as little as $300 - $400. It depends what your needs are and depends what your comfort level is with all the pieces of the immigration process.
If you just want someone to do the paperwork, again that's probably only a few hundred dollars. But if you want full representation, then its going to depend on the complexity of your case. Again, it could be a couple of thousand dollars on up, but I would say the average deportation or removal case is probably somewhere around $4,000-$5,000. Be aware that there are also many variables. For example, certain things can complicate or drag out the process, making it cost more. One example would be if you didn't disclose to your immigration attorney your negative criminal record.
Other examples would be If you did not disclose a prior deportation to the attorney, or if you have a lack of supporting documents or inability to produce sufficient supporting evidence of documents to back up your case. For your immigration attorney to cost efficiently go to court on your behalf and keep you here legally and get your green card or other legal status, you must disclose everything up front.
For the most precise evaluation of your situation, you do need to go to the immigration attorney and give him/her all the facts. You should bare in mind that everything you tell to the attorney is confidential and private and they cannot disclose this information to any third party. I caution you, however, to make sure that who you're dealing with is a licensed attorney. Anyone who is not a licensed attorney is not bound by the attorney-client confidentiality prohibitions and anything you tell to that person will NOT be protected.
I am an immigration attorney in Murrieta, California. In this area, cases that are not in court, could cost as little as little $500 to $1,000. Of course it also depends on what your needs are and what the immigration attorney determines is in your best interest.
For a more precise court evaluation, you should visit the immigration attorney and lay out all the facts. Be sure to determine that they are licensed attorney. Don't be bashful or hesitant to ask. It's a reasonable question and you should know exactly who's your dealing with before you proceed and disclose personal and confidential details about your life and your case.
Hopefully this is been helpful, and remember: know you rights before you undertake something as important as immigration law.
