Growing Trend of Indian students Going abroad !
Indian Students desiring to go abroad on study Visa cherish a desire to study and settle there. In this process, they become guiliible victims of agents their touts and hawks running immigeration business. This is an issue which has more aspects then indian students getting fleeced by touts at home. These relate to one's sojourn to foreign lands for the sake of higher studies or to accompalish his desire to settle abroad for greener pastures legally or illegally or to seek peremanent residence abroad. Based on one's motive one is prone to be fleeced by unscruplous touts operating in the area.
Statistics reveal that there were about 3600 stuents studying in UK in the 1960 s. Sincere students going for higher studies prefer US as their destination, as the Universities there are with much better infrastructure and technology. Compared to these many Indian Universities have woeful infrastructure. The world is a globalised village; and it is imperitive that students develop a global perspective.
Winston Churchill had once said, "Empires of the future will be empires of the minds." Indians studying abroad later making that country their permanent homes have contributed tremendously in the social, economic and even political mainstreams. This was the scenario when only rich used to go aborad for studies with the aim of transforming their outlook and enhancing the status of their families.In 2007 India went past China in overseas universities.
The scenario changed, indian universities failed to accommodate aspirants for higher education. These people shifted to studying abroad. Despite stringent rules, indians made forays to the western countries. Some of the steps taken by the foreign nations in attracting overseas students introduced very simple courses and this opportunity was exploited by the agents, touts etc. Guillible persons fell prey to them. Despite, people were cheated, became an open secret, people thronged the offices of these hawks.
Situation has turned so brazen, that families have sold their land holdings only to send their children abroad and have to bear the shock of their life, when they find that their son has been illegally sent to some other country where he is held by their local police and dreams are shattered.
It is for the intelligentia and the Government of the Nation to create an awareness programme which sends clear messsage to the aspirants looking PR in Canada or US or for that matter any country that "all is not green oveerseas" and "mission overseas for studies or settlement" should be planned in a foolprooof manner. Indian Universities may not provide infrastructure or technology, yet for those who are left out in the competitions can work better in india than go in for petty jobs abroad.
