Eligibility Requirements for Diversity Visa Green Card Lottery (DV-2012)
The Diversity Visa Lottery program conducted by the U.S. Department of State grants around 50,000 U.S. permanent resident visas annually. The permanent resident visas are issued each year only to those foreign nationals who meet certain eligibility standards set by the U.S. law.
This congressionally-mandated lottery called the Visa Lottery program makes diversity visas available only to those persons belonging to countries with comparatively low U.S. immigration rates. The applicants eligible to apply for the Visa Green Card Lottery are selected by using a computer-generated random lottery drawing.
Although the visas are divided among 6 geographic regions, applicants must note that the maximum number of visas is issued to regions with low immigration rates. The countries that send more than 50,000 immigrants to the US do not qualify for the Diversity Visa Lottery program. The DOS does not to allocate more than 7% of the available diversity visas to a single country, in a year.
In an attempt to make the Diversity Visa Lottery process highly effective and safe, the Department of State (DOS) implemented an electronic registration system. From DV2005, DOS makes use of special technology to identify a scam or fraud. By using this advanced technology, DOS detects those who commit fraud or submit multiple entries for the purpose of illegal immigration.
Applicants must take note of the countries that are not eligible for DV-2012. However, applicants who are born in countries, such as Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible. A one-month registration period for the U.S. Green Card Lottery 2012 or DV-2012, ended at noon on 3 November 2010, Eastern Daylight time.
Every year, applicants are expected to complete the electronic Diversity Visa Lottery application form. If registration is done at www.usa-green-card.com, the entire registration process for the applicant will be taken care of by a professional team from USA Green Card. They will not only help process the DV-2012 applications, but also offer free air tickets for successful applicants who enlisted through them.
