Queensland (QLD) State Sponsored Migration Plan Released
Introduction
On 07 November 2010, QLD released its State Migration Plan under which skilled migrants to Australia can apply for Australian permanent residence with state sponsorship.
Sponsorship applications for QLD state sponsorship will be accepted from 07 November 2010.
Revised eligibility lists for occupations under which QLD state sponsorship may by granted have now been released for the followingAustralian visa subclass categories -
- Subclass 176,
- Subclass 886,
- Subclass 475, and
- Subclass 487
There are no application fees for any of the state sponsored visas with Queensland.
Eligibility
Most nominated applications require an IELTS level score of no less than 7.0 in all components or higher.
Offshore Applicants who are applying for Subclass Visa 176
The Subclass 176 Australian state sponsored permanent resident visa is for overseas applicants who want to live and work in Queensland and who have a skill nominated on the state's migration plan.
Engineers, medical professionals, social workers and ICT systems analyst are the only listed nominated occupations for QLD under the 176 visa subclass.

Applicants must demonstrate the following to apply;
- have an occupation on theeligible skilled sponsored list for QLD;
- meet all the requirements for the nominated occupation as detailed on the eligibility list;
- have a currentpositive skills assessment for that occupation;
- include any other supporting documentation deemed relevant to the application;
- be assessed bySkilled and Business Migration Queensland as being likely to provide a clear benefit to the Queensland economy
- have sufficient settlement funds (as cash) to cover potential long periods of unemployment;
- Meet all other research criteria for living and working in QLD.
International Students Applying for the Visa Subclass 886
Please note that medical professionals are the only listed nominated occupations under the 886 subclass visa.
To apply for and be granted the Subclass 886 skilled state sponsored residence visa, you will need to meet the following requirements to be considered under the QLD state migration plan and sponsorship;
- have an occupation on theskilled sponsored eligibility list for QLD;
- have a job or job offer in Queensland in the nominated occupation (including a signed statement from the employer, and the name, address, ABN and contact phone number for the business) ;
- provide evidence of Queensland residency;
- include any other supporting documentation deemed relevant to the application;
- be assessed by Migration and Skills Recruitment Queensland as being likely to provide a clear benefit to the Queensland economy;
- have sufficient settlement funds (as cash) in case of potential long term unemployment;

Students Applying for Skilled Regional Sponsored 487 Visa
The 487 skilled regional sponsored visa is available to those students who cannot meet the point's criteria, the occupation isn't listed or work experience requirements to apply for the subclass 886 state sponsored permanent visa cannot be met.
To apply for Queensland sponsorship you must be able to show the following;
- have an occupation on the regional sponsored state migration plan list;
- meet the requirements for the nominated occupation;
- have a currentpositive skills assessment for that occupation;
- supply any other supporting documentation deemed relevant to the application;
- Be assessed bySkilled and Business Migration as being likely to provide a clear benefit to the Queensland economy.
Engineers, medical professionals, management accountant, social worker and secondary school teachers are some of the nominated occupations listed for the 487 visa subclass.

Offshore Applicants who are applying for Subclass Visa 475
The 475 skilled regional sponsored (provisional) visas is for overseas applicants who can't meet the points criteria for a permanent visa option but still have a nominated occupation that QLD need.
The skilled regional sponsored (provisional) visa (subclasses 475 and 487) are three year provisional visas for skilled workers who agree to live and work in a regional area. These visa holders have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency after they have lived for two years and worked for at least 12 months in a regional area.
Regional areas of Queensland are defined via post codes; these can be advised by our solicitors during the assessment process.

The Queensland government set specific criteria that must be satisfied if you are to be awarded Queensland State Sponsorship.
