Immigration rules and the means to be a Green Card holder in US

Immigration to United States is one of the most common things these days. There are several people who are found to be immigrating to the US each year. And like any other country the US immigration also needs certain rules to be followed. Besides that it is also essential to note that failing to follow these rules may cause civil penalty or may lead one into serious trouble. To look into the history of America we can find that US immigration has been a major source of the population growth of the US. Now to be a permanent resident of the US there are also some rules that should be followed as well. If you are an immigrant then you may like to be a permanent citizen of the US and in that case the only means you can get is to attain a US green card.

The green card is the permanent resident card of the United States. The name green card is not a formal one though. It is informally known as the green card because of being green in color and because it shows legal green signal allowing a person being allowed to be a permanent resident of the US. However, to achieve a green card is the legal process providing the proof that the holder of the card is a lawful permanent resident of US. Thus a Green Card holder is officially granted all the immigration benefits which include the right of residence and to take on employment in the USA. In this respect it should be kept in mind that the holder of the Green Card must maintain his or her permanent resident status and is liable to be removed from the United States if certain conditions of being in the status of a permanent resident are not met.

There are several means to get a green card. The main process of getting a green card and to be allowed the status of a permanent resident comes by going through three steps. These steps include; immigrant petition, immigrant VISA availability and immigrant Visa adjudication which includes; Adjustment of Status, and Consular Processing. There is also another process of getting a green card is by the process of family based immigration. In this a person being married to an US citizen can get the Green Card. There are also some other cases like unmarried child under the age of 21, unmarried step child under the age of 21, adopted child under the age of 18, parents or step parents, Unmarried son or daughter over the age of 21, Married son or daughter (any age), brother or sister, all these relations to a US citizen can get a green card by fallowing certain rules.

Besides that the following relations to a green card holder like, spouse, unmarried child under the age of 21, Unmarried stepchild under the age of 21, Adopted child under the age of 18 or Unmarried son or daughter over the age of 21, can also get green card in US.

These are some of the rules of getting a green card in US and to get he benefits of a permanent resident in US.
